Review: When a scientist is nearly assassinated, a risky experimental procedure is the only way to save him. A submarine, with a small crew aboard, must be shrunken to microscopic size, injected into his blood stream, and repair a life-threatening brain injury. "Fantastic Voyage" is an amazing special effects adventure that only could have come out during the psychedelic '60s. What an ambitious movie! It's clever, creative, and takes you places and shows you sights that have never been seen on screen. Cutting edge special effects, photography, set and production design make it truly fantastic. You really feeling like you're seeing inside the human body. What makes the film's high-concept work is the stellar cast. Stephen Boyd, Raquel Welch, Edmond O'Brien, Donald Pleasence, Arthur O'Connell, William Redfield, and Arthur Kennedy are giving this remarkable sci-fi extravaganza everything they got! Like the film's taglines says, "Four men and one woman on the most fantastic, spectacular and terrifying journey of their lives..." and audiences are still enjoying it all these years later...me included!
Fun Fact: Raquel Welch said in her 2013 book that she was infatuated with actor Steven Boyd while making the film. However, he declined her advances.
