Review: After the members of a team of scientists (Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray) lose their cushy positions at a university in New York City, they decide to become "ghostbusters" to wage a high-tech battle with the supernatural for money. They stumble upon a gateway to another dimension, a doorway that will release evil upon the city. The Ghostbusters must now save New York from complete destruction.
Ghostbusters is a timeless Halloween classic, plain and simple. Amidst a myriad of cheesy apparitions is Bill Murray doing what he does best: Delivering line after line of ad-libbed comedic wit with impeccable timing. Ghostbusters benefits from it's fantastic cast of funny people who truly look like they are having a ton of fun with this movie. Along with Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis are hilarious and the simple comedy pairs perfectly with some of the more elaborate sci-fi elements that this film has to offer. Our goofy crew of green-slime ghoul hunters exhibit unbelievably chemistry with Murray and Aykroyd previously working together on "Saturday Night Live" as well as Murray and Ramis teaming up for classic movies such as Caddyshack and Stripes. This film is a pure joy to watch. The comedy is witty and clever, sometimes goofy, and incredibly sharp. Couple all of that with an iconic theme song, and a Manhattan showdown between the Ghostbusters team and a ghost the size of a skyscraper and what you have is an abundance of fun! Ghostbusters is a classic for a reason, and is without a doubt a film that should be enjoyed every Halloween season!
If there's something strange in you neighborhood,
Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!
If there's something weird and it don't look good,
Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!
Fun Fact: Almost none of the scenes were filmed as scripted and, in fact, almost all of the scenes had at least one or two ad-libs. Most of Bill Murray's lines are ad-libs.
