Review: A man's bizarre murder sends his daughter (Stacey Nelkin) and his doctor (Tom Atkins) on a terrifying trek that's filled with robots, witchcraft, and face-melting Halloween masks.
Halloween III: Season of the Witch is the first and only Halloween sequel that does not feature Michael Myers as its lead villain. Technically, he is in it, but only when TV ads for the 1978 John Carpenter horror masterpiece are playing in the background in some scenes. Most people believe that Myers' absence is why this sequel was a failure. It's probably true, but if you put all of that aside and you watch without speculating on the whereabouts of Myers then you are in for a weird viewing experience that is as confusing as it is creepy.
As always, Tom Atkins is ten kinds of awesome! I love this guy. As our lead he's a flawed hero that gets in over his head when trying to stop the evil Conal Cochran (Dan O'Herlihy), who's deliciously vile, and his Silver Shamrock Halloween masks from killing all who wear them. The only thing worse that this diabolical plot is having to listen to that damn Silver Shamrock theme song that is played over and over and over again throughout the movie. Trust me, after the third time you hear it it'll be stuck in your cranium forever. [sung to the tune of "London Bridge is Falling Down"] One more day 'til Halloween/ Halloween/ Halloween/ One more day 'til Halloween/ Silver Shamrock.
The plot really doesn't make a lot of sense. It's mysterious and creepy, but doesn't really add up to a whole heck of a lot. It's a bad B-movie for sure that has some great moments of scares, surprises, and Silver Shamrock, see it's in my head. Oh, and the score provided by John Carpenter and Alan Howarth is a huge highlight here, too.
So if you're looking to be scared while scratching your head trying to follow the plot then put on your Silver Shamrock mask and tune in for the big giveaway that is...Halloween III: Season of the Witch.
