Review: Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott) is a dedicated med student with a bright future ahead of him. But when Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs, who's just the best!) becomes his new roommate they begin a series of bizarre experiments re-animating dead tissue. And the results are mixed...at best! Based on the H.P. Lovecraft story, Re-Animator is a hysterically funny over-the-top gore-fest that knows exactly what it is and how far to push the boundaries of "good taste". Bruce Abbott is a likable lead, Barbara Crampton is very game for what her character has to endure, and David Gale and the great Jeffrey Combs chew the scenery like a couple of beavers turned loose in an Amish furniture store. This movie is extreme in every way! I cannot stress to you enough just how far this movie goes. I've seen so many movies and when I watch Re-Animator I still can't believe some of the things I'm seeing. It's Unrated for a reason. The gore, the violence, the nudity, the humor, the acting, the whole movie is so crazy that you'll either bust a gut from laughing or hiding your eyes from the blood and guts. And you'll never look at a severed head the same way after spending time with the Re-Animator. It's funny and gross...as it should be, and I love it!
Fun Fact: The special effects department went through twenty-five gallons of fake blood during the shoot.
