Review: A small coastal town is about to celebrate its 100th birthday when a mysterious fog rolls in, bringing with it a murderous supernatural force. The Fog is John Carpenter's first theatrical feature since Halloween and it's more of an atmospheric ghost story. It's moody, creepy, suspenseful, and sends shivers down your spine. Like a lot of Carpenter's movies The Fog is a slow-burn that builds and builds until the third act and then really lets loose with the gore and scares. I can see some viewers being challenged by the pace, but it's total worth it in the end. The ensemble cast is amazing! From leading ladies Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis, Janet Leigh, and Nancy Kyes (then Nancy Loomis), to screen veterans John Houseman and Hal Holbrook, and Carpenter regulars Tom Atkins and Charles Cyphers, you get a great variety of characters that may or may not make it to the credits, but all are fantastic here. And Caprenter's score is amazing! It sets the mood and keeps you in suspense the entire time. If you like John Carpenter movies, ghost stories, horror movies, or bizarre weather patterns then The Fog is for you!
